Signature Drink: What Angels Drink

Named after a line by Mark Twain, who said of watermelon in the summer “I imagine it’s what angels eat,” this clever mixture of watermelon and kaffir lime ice cubes, cointreau, orange bitters and sparkling wine will make guests swoon.  

INGREDIENTS:
—3 watermelon ice cubes*
—.5 oz. Cointreau
—3 dashes of orange bitters
—2.5 oz. Moscato d’Asti 
—2.5 oz. sparkling wine
—.75 oz. lime juice

Texan Entrepreneurs Announce Devils River Small-Batch Whiskey, Devils River

A recent Gold medalist at the 2017 Denver International Spirits Competition, Devil's River Whiskey is officially the newest small-batch bourbon to be available in Texas.

The namesake Devils River, located in southwestern Texas, is part of the Rio Grande drainage basin. The river earned its name when renowned Texas Ranger John Coffee Hays first saw the river and learned that it was called the San Pedro, named for St. Peter.

Austin Craft Tequila Distiller Expands Lineup

Austin’s Dulce Vida Tequilas has added 70-proof lime tequila and grapefruit options to its retail mix. The fruit-infusions join a new 80-proof portfolio that has been added to the company’s organic blue agave Los Altos tequila. “These cocktail-ready, category disrupters are providing healthier cocktail solutions,” says Eric Dopkins, founder and CEO of Milestone Brands, parent company of Dulce Vida Tequilas. 

Signature Drink: The Bee Keeper

This recipe was created by Pamela Moncrief, spirits director at Spirits by Sedona, a luxury cocktail experience. The recipe is a riff on a classic called The Bee’s Knees and is a guest favorite of Spirits by Sedona, a division of Sedona Productions, an event management company that serves as the in-house booking, planning and production company for Cendera Center in Fort Worth. 

INGREDIENTS:
—2 oz. Ford’s Gin
—.5 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
—.5 oz. wildflower honey syrup
—1 pinch paprika
—1 dash Angostura bitters

Signature Drink: Lavender Collins

Freedmen’s Bar in Austin is a laid-back lounge, beer garden, and smokehouse serving barbecue and retro-inspired cocktails in a historic Austin building. Bartenders often work in tangent with Pitmaster Evan LeRoy, using ingredients that are smoked alongside the restaurant’s awardwinning barbecue. 

INGREDIENTS:
—1.5 oz. Botanist Gin
—.75 oz. lavender syrup
—.75 oz. lemon juice

DIRECTIONS:
Muddle cucumber. Top with soda and stir. Garnish with edible flower

Signature Drink: Pinot Orange Whiskey Smash

Founded in 2009 by Steve Ison and Mike Cameron, Rebecca Creek Distillery was the first legal distillery in South Texas after Prohibition. It has since grown to become one of the largest craft distilleries in North America with nearly 85,000 cases sold annually. The distillery offers free tours on Fridays and Saturdays, and its tasting room and gift shop are open to the public for group tastings and private events for up to 500 people. 

Signature Drink - Texas Valentine

INGREDIENTS:
—1.5 oz. vodka
—.5 oz. St. Germain elderflower liqueur
—.5 oz. velvet falernum liqueur
—2 dashes rhubarb bitters
—1.5 oz. rose water
—3-5 rose petals

DIRECTIONS:
1. Muddle rose petals with rose water.
2. Add all ingredients to a shaker.
3. Shake and pour over ice.

Signature Drink - Somebody's Mother's Chocolate Caramel Martini

INGREDIENTS:
—1 shot Stoli Vanilla Vodka
—1 shot Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
—1 shot Somebody’s Mother’s Caramel Sauce
—1 dollop whipped cream

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Swirl Somebody’s Mother’s Caramel Sauce around the inside rim of a martini glass.
2. Fill shaker with ice and mix ingredients.
3. Shake well and pour into the martini glass.
4. Top with a dollop of whipped cream.
