By M+E Staff

The Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) recently named Steven Hacker as the winner of the 2012 JMIC Profile and Power Award. Hacker, who previously held the role of president of the International Associated of Exhibits and Events, was awarded for his years of work publicizing the value of the exhibition sector and overcoming obstacles to promote the growth and development of the exhibits and events industry.

The JMIC Power and Profile Award aims to recognize individuals and organizations who contribute significantly to increasing the Meetings Industry profile in their respective communities, as well as bringing about structural or policy changes that increase awareness and influence of the sector.

“Through his work in advocating with members of the US Congress and the Departments of State and Homeland Security, as well as his driving research to document the economic consequences of visa restrictions on participation in the exhibition industry overall, Mr. Hacker has successfully addressed both of these key areas and left a legacy of understanding that will support the industry for years to come,” said Philippe Fournier, JMIC President.

The JMIC is currently expanding its work in the areas of industry messaging, information exchange and the development of a collective voice to promote key issues and values.
