The Austin Marriott Downtown is raising a glass to the completion of its structural framework, literally. Instead of raising the “final beam,” the hotel held a “topping-off” event where guests watched a large crane raise three Garrison Brothers bourbon barrels onto the hotel’s rooftop, in collaboration with local spirit masters Garrison Brothers Distillery.

Symbolic of how bourbon takes on the characteristics of the barrel and its environment, this unique topping off celebration represents the Austin Marriott Downtown taking on the spirit and culture of its new home. The barrels will remain on the roof until the hotel’s opening in mid-2020, at which time the first guests will be treated to an exclusive Austin Marriott-inspired whiskey tasting.

Located across the street from the Austin Convention Center and in walking distance from famed 6th Street, the new hotel offers an ideal location for meetings and events. The 31-story building will feature 613 guest rooms, 25 suites and more than 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space. A rooftop pool and bar will span 2,500 square feet; compete with cabanas and a copper elevator offering guests and locals street access to the rooftop oasis.

At ground level, guests have the option to drink and dine at any of the hotel’s three bars and two locally inspired restaurants. In addition, an outdoor dining space will extend from one of the two restaurants, inviting people to step off the busy street to sit down and relax.

“The demand for Austin continues to grow. As we talk to customers, we find that people fit into two buckets — those that want to go to Austin and those that want to go back to Austin. This convention hotel expands on companies’ and organizations’ desires to bring people to experience the unique culture that is Austin,” says Fernando Estala, director of sales and marketing at Austin Marriott Downtown.

Warm, modern, and reflective of the abundant nature surrounding the city of Austin; the hotel’s interior design includes natural finishes and distressed wood detailing. Described by General Manager David Meisner as “modern and sophisticated with elevated and inventive features surrounded by moments of brilliance” — the hotel takes shape to both the natural and contemporary ambiance encompassing the city of Austin.

Additional amenities include an exhibit hall with floor-to-ceiling windows and a 170-foot glass wall offering stunning views of downtown Austin, along with a two-story open concept lobby bar offering a versatile commonplace for both guests and locals to unwind.

Modern ingenuity, local history and curiosity shape the foundation that will soon be home to the new Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin hotel. Expected to open in the fall of 2021, Colorado-based real estate investor and developer McWHINNEY has big plans for this full-service lifestyle hotel.

After a successful venture into the city of Austin back in 2018, Flagship Restaurant Group (FRG) announced the 2020 addition of two concepts, Blue Sushi Sake Grill and Plank Seafood Provisions. Both concepts will be located within The Domain, Austin’s bustling shopping, dining and entertainment development.
