A new building has Dentonites buzzing, but it’s not a music venue or restaurant. It's the brand-new Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center ‒ a multi-purpose, multi-faceted hotel and meetings facility that recently rose on the south side of Rayzor Ranch. The LEED Gold-certified, 318-room hotel and convention center has the town teeming with excitement and anticipation of great things to come. It opened its doors January 2018, and simultaneously opened the doors to endless possibilities for Dentonites and visitors alike.

However, as has always been the case when you stay in Denton, where you stay or where you meet is only one piece of a much larger experience. Denton’s music, culture, attractions and innovators always have and will always make the city a must-see, and there’s no better way to experience all the vibrancy of this North Texas town than to check it out for yourself.

Here are the top five reasons to discover Denton for your next meeting or event.

The Downtown Square

A bookstore, a boutique, a comic book haven and several top-shelf restaurants are all nestled together in Denton’s downtown square ‒ each right next door to so much more.  You could spend a whole day wandering the nooks and crannies of each of Denton’s delightful downtown destinations, many of which offer premier eats, treats and souvenirs. Art, culture and culinary creations collide in this walkable square, all surrounding our crowning jewel, an 1896 historic courthouse. Plan to spend time on the square and don’t leave without wolfing down a burger at LSA and cleansing your palate with some delicious Beth Marie’s Ice Cream.

The Horse Country

Denton’s horse country tours still remain one of the city's best-kept secrets. These tours offer a variety of behind-the-scenes excursions through the North Texas Horse Country. You’ll experience an up-close-and-personal tour, showcasing million-dollar sires, million-dollar trainers and, if you’re lucky, a baby born just the night before. The concentration of horse farms in the North Texas region doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. Truly an experience you don’t want to miss.

The Tastes of the Town

We’ve already established that the square has plenty of premier dining options, but great eateries abound around every corner you’ll cross in Denton. Interested in Americana? Flock to Barley & Board, a trendy New American restaurant with delicious food, cheeseboards and handmade craft cocktails. If you’re craving something a little more global, try Hannah’s Off the Square, an upscale eatery offering tapas, chops and seafood in a cozy environment. Or, if you favor some Italian flavor, head to Giuseppe’s, a delicious dining experience with a Victorian-style setting. Finally, if you’re craving a blast to the past ‒ and the food thereof ‒ look no further than Mr. Frosty’s. This old-school, family-friendly fast food favorite has been serving up homestyle burgers and fries alongside delicious homemade root beer and shakes since 1954. We could go on, but the mere thought of these savory selections has us salivating. We’ll see you out there for lunch.

The Tunes of the Town

With a world-famous music program at the University of North Texas a few miles from downtown, it’s no wonder that Denton has quickly become the music capital of North Texas. Local tunes fill the square air nearly every night, and if you’re in the mood for a concert, you have a variety of venues to choose from. Dan’s Silver Leaf, Backyard on Bell and Andy’s Bar are just a few of the local favorites, each boasting a different ambiance and style of music. Whether you prefer an intimate, low-key backyard concert to accompany your dinner, or a post-meal jazz concert complete with some wine, Denton has you covered.

The Independence ‒ and the Innovators

Denton has always blazed its own trail. Take a look at the square or listen to a local artist, and you’ll see what’s possible when creativity and artistry are embraced by the community at large. Ingenuity and originality have a special place in this North Texas town, and above all else, that’s the reason that Denton continues to be a vibrant home for artists of all stripes. While Denton has always embraced its festival scene, in the past several years, festivals celebrating various holidays, music genres, comedy acts and more have brought new life to the downtown scene. Fun events, nightlife and attractions have sprung forth from the minds of the city’s mightiest creatives and entrepreneurs. These original creations make Denton a hub of innovation and a home for innovators, and in turn, these innovators have cultivated a palatable environment for anyone who craves great food, great music and some of the greatest memories you’ll ever make.

The new hotel and convention center is a sleek and shiny crown jewel dotting the Denton skyline, but as you’ll see when you visit, it’s the experiences outside the center that will leave you longing to return as soon as possible.
