The George, one of Valencia Group’s newest properties, opened in late summer 2017 in College Station. The 162-room boutique property—a collaboration with Valencia’s long-time partner, Midway—is located in the Century Square along with pedestrian-friendly dining, entertainment and retail venues. 

“It has been incredible to watch the components of The George and the Century Square project come to fruition,” says Midway CEO Jonathan Brinsden. “The essence of this location—with its history and its link to Texas A&M—gives us an opportunity to tell a story and foster an atmosphere that truly reflects this community.”

Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp adds, “We are incredibly excited with the opening of The George. This will truly help usher in a new era for College Station.” 

The George takes its name from notable Texas “Georges” like former President George H.W. Bush and developer, oilman and philanthropist George Mitchell. Inside, guests are welcomed with brick accents, exposed ceilings, rich wood tones and art installations that incorporate the region’s roots. Imaginative furniture and design elements, such as the Texas Book Wall featuring more than 10,000 books arranged to create the state flag, add pops of color and warmth to the hotel. 

Guest rooms feature custom Valencia beds with Egyptian cotton linens, spacious work areas, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions and stocked minibars. The 1,900-squarefoot presidential suite provides balcony views of the Bonfire Memorial and Kyle Field. Additional amenities include live music, continental breakfast and an outdoor pool.

The meeting and event space at The George totals 5,800 square feet, including The Library and the 5,236-square-foot Statesman Ballroom. The Library can accommodate up to 14 people while The Statesman can hold up 500 guests. A Valencia sister property named Cavalry Court is located just 60 feet away from The George. Larger groups can host events at both properties and utilize a combined total of more than 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.

Attention to local and historic detail carries over into The George’s dining and beverage options. 1791 Whiskey Bar is named after the year of the Whiskey Rebellion. The bar offers a view of the pool, live music and whiskeys from all over the world. The hotel’s restaurant, Poppy, refers to a nickname given to P resident George H. W. Bush by his parents. Poppy offers small plates of Texas flavors made with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows and a wood-burning hearth over which dishes like wild boar and pork cheeks are prepared.

“Meeting planners will find this location to be pedestrian friendly, giving attendees a variety of places to walk to during free time,” says Marcus Latner, general manager of The George. “It is a destination where you can shop, dine, connect, stay and play.”

-- splash of lemonade
-- lemon, garnish
-- ice

DIRECTIONS
1. Pour American Born Peach Whiskey, freshly brewed tea and lemonade in a glass with ice.
2. Stir until combined well.
3. Garnish with a lemon wedge. Enjoy!
