In an increasingly technology-dependent society it can be difficult to get people to unplug, especially at meetings. Attendees often use the time to multitask, catching up on emails instead of focusing on the actual meeting.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa wants to change that and help meeting planners encourage attendees to unplug. The Texas Hill Country-based resort immerses guests in nature. The rolling hills covered in wildflowers are a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the business world. Their spa, the Windflower, can be incorporated into meetings. It features a eucalyptus steam room, whirlpool, private outdoor pool, dry sauna, hot tub and relaxation areas. Each guest has a day pass that includes a locker and complimentary robe, slippers and beauty amenities.

“Mindfulness and its impact on meetings is something that’s just beginning to take hold in the meetings and events industry, but it’s a focus worth exploring,” says Jeff Donahoe, director of sales and marketing at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa. “Health and wellness is more than just a meeting trend and mindfulness is part of that. Creating an environment where attendees can focus and engage makes meetings more productive.”

To keep attendees engaged, have them periodically shift from analytical mode to a reflective mode that allows them to absorb the experience. This allows them to reflect and focus on the meeting instead of their laundry lists of tasks.

Studies show that mindfulness improves the memory capacity of overstressed people and improve brain function. Additionally, the American Psychological Association states that mindfulness can improve cognition, decrease depression, reduce stress, increase focus and boost productivity. It can be achieved through many different methods, including yoga.

“We work to create the best possible learning conditions for our meeting attendees. From the perfect location to the healthy food and beverage offerings to avoid attendees feeling hungry or tired,” says Donahoe. “We also offer yoga sessions with experienced yogis, spa breaks to include relaxing massages and can arrange meditation sessions and more.”

On September 1, over 1,500 businesses across the country illuminated their buildings with red lights to draw attention to the devastation that the live events and performance art industries have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

According to a survey commissioned by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), frequent travelers feel safer when hotels adhere to AHLA's Stay Safe guidelines, which detail cleaning protocols for hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

Through responses to bi-weekly surveys, Global Business Travel Association members have indicated that domestic busines travel is ramping up after months of struggle.
