At the end of July, the Jellystone Park at Whispering Pines in East Tyler, Texas, opened its long-anticipated laser tag game.

The laser tag is just under an acre in size and can accommodate up to 20 guests.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in this, so we’re eager to have the game up and running for our guests to enjoy,” says Don Tardy, the park’s co-owner who bought the campground four years ago with his wife, Jan, and her two adult children, Colt and Bree Perrin.

Tardy also noted that this has been the busiest summer yet, mostly because they invested more than $1 million in new games and other improvements around the campground over the past three years, including an 18-hole miniature golf course.

The Tyler campground is one of the first Jellystone Parks in the U.S. to offer a free texting service to its guests, enabling them to be notified of Yogi Bear sightings, special events and news during their stay at the campground.

In 2020, COVID-19 forced the early closure of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Last year, select events were held in person. But in 2022, the rodeo was back in full force as it celebrated its 90th anniversary. Successfully staging the largest rodeo in the world relies on the contributions of 35,000 volunteers.

Houston’s C. Baldwin hotel has debuted its event space: Parlour Hideaway. Located on the first floor of the hotel, it is accessible through a hidden door near the lobby. Accommodating intimate gatherings of up to 65 guests, Parlour Hideaway is available for event bookings only and not open to the public. Chef Chris Cosentino of the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Rosalie Italian Soul, created a new curated catering and drink menu exclusive to the space.

Puttshack, a tech-infused mini-golf experience with food and drink, is opening a location at the Village on the Parkway, an open-air shopping destination within the Dallas metropolitan area. Opening in the summer of 2023, it will be Puttshack’s second location in Texas.
