This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending a mixology class at coup d’etat in Uptown Minneapolis. The class was held in one of their semi-private dining areas, where 18 of us had the pleasure of creating five signature cocktails with our mixologist Alex.

We started with a refreshing drink made up of strawberry syrup, lemon juice, vodka and topped with prosecco and a slice of strawberry. With each drink that followed, the flavors and ingredients became increasingly more complex until we finished with a drink composed of egg whites and a variety of liquors, including banana and chocolate.

Throughout the three hours of mixing and shaking our customized cocktails, coup d’etat provided a sampling of dishes from the kitchen. We were able to taste the calamari, a prosciutto pizza, veggies and hummus, French fries and their parmesan and truffle gnocchi.

I was extremely impressed with the level of detail coup d’etat provided for our private party. Alex had made sure to learn the nature of our event beforehand and crafted his recipes to match the personality of our group. He was extremely patient with us, even as the group became more social as the night went on…and the wait staff was quick to provide everything we needed.

Private parties can be booked for groups ranging from two to 30 people and usually cost about $75-$95 per person. Events should be booked at least a week before, but a few more weeks out allows the staff and guests to find a more comfortable date that works for everyone. Each class covers about three cocktails per hour usually resulting in five or six drinks in total, as well as the history and creation stories of the drinks. Coup d’etat’s main bartender customizes a menu for the private parties and the classes can easily be customized for each group.

If you’re looking for a fun option for a small networking event, I would recommend checking out the mixology class at coup d’etat. With a customizable drink and food menu, and your own private room, it’s hard to go wrong. For more information on hosting a private event, visit the website. http://coupdetatmpls.com/contact/
