• New Hotel Anchors Mixed-use Development in Houston

    POSTED October 23, 2017

The nation-wide trend of anchoring mixed-use developments with hotels is growing and evolving and this new upscale Houston hotel is no exception.

The upscale Hotel Alessandra in Downtown Houston features 223-guestrooms and more than 5,000 square feet of event space. The 20-story hotel, which opened October 1, 2017, anchors the three-block-long GreenStreet mixed-use development. The Hotel Alessandra is one of The Valencia Group’s newest properties and the flagship of its new luxury brand.

The 570,000-square-foot GreenStreet development encompasses office and retail space as well as dining and entertainment venues. Midway of Houston is the developer of the mixed-use facility and partnered with The Valencia Group to bring the Hotel Alessandra project to fruition. In addition to GreenStreet, the hotel is within a mile of the George R. Brown Convention Center, Discovery Green, the Downtown Aquarium and The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

“Downtown Houston has truly metamorphosed over the past several years and continues to evolve as the centerpiece of a city with remarkable business resilience and increasing appeal as a convention and leisure market,” says Doyle A. Graham, Jr., founder and CEO of Valencia Group. “We’re honored to have the opportunity to create a lasting landmark in the center of it all in longtime partner Midway’s GreenStreet development and strived to forge a path with the Alessandra brand and hotel that doesn’t follow in our own footsteps or those of our competitive set. The look and feel of the localized flagship, merges a global perspective with an innate understanding of Houston.”

The Hotel Alessandra features more than 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space including the 3,300-square-foot Belle Ballroom with two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows and ample pre-function salon. The third-floor Belle Ballroom can accommodate a standing reception of up to 200 guests. Also on the third floor, the Jolie and Beau rooms can be combined for a capacity of 50 attendees. The Autre Executive Boardroom, complete with a roof-top terrace, is situated on the top floor of the hotel and can accommodate an intimate meeting of up to 10 guests.

Additional amenities include the upscale Mediterranean Lucienne restaurant, the Bardot bar and lounge, Spa by Alessandra, valet parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, a fitness center and a fifth-floor swimming pool with seasonal poolside bar. The hotel is a 27-mile drive from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, a short walk from the Main Street METRORail location, complimentary car service within the downtown area, and on-site bike sharing is available through BCycle.

When you want to escape the lingering Texas heat for a few days in the fall, but you don’t really want to head north to more blustery conditions, Sonoma or Monterey, located northeast and south of San Francisco respectively, are fabulous options for short retreats or group getaways. And, lucky for you, if you live in or near Dallas, both destinations have direct flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, making your trip stress-free.

Airport-friendly hotels’ proximity and amenities add up for extra convenience for planners.

Born and raised in Bryan, about 90 miles east of Village of Salado, Chadley Hollas, Village of Salado’s director of tourism, says he came to the town with one goal: to help Salado become Texas’ best small destination. His favorite thing about his adopted hometown is the people. “They are quirky, creative and hospitable—a neat combination that makes for many good conversations,” says Hollas.
