• Sheraton Austin Opens New Restaurant

The newest concept to the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol, a Sheraton Hotels & Resorts property, backYARD at Waller Creek, soft opened during SXSW 2017 in Austin. backYARD is Austin's newest restaurant, bar, and outdoor venue downtown, offering American cuisines with Texas flavors, a spacious outdoor event space, and house-infused spirits.

The restaurant's menu was created by executive chef Lonny Huot, with local ingredients, house spices and rubs freshly made from Chef Huot's garden. Some of the most popular dishes throughout lunch, breakfast, and dinner include the backYARD Bowl with toasted quinoa, arugula, blue cheese, golden beets and backYARD oregano vinaigrette; Carnitas, Chili Lime Shrimp and Baja Fish tacos; YARDbird with crispy fried chicken, orange jalapeno spread, arugula and green tomato on multigrain Kaiser; Chorizo & Pepper Jack Grits Cakes Benedict with smoked tomato hollandaise; and 24 hour house-brined Bone-In Pork Chop with chorizo & sweet potato hash, scallions, and guajillo chilies.

The drinks are made from local and house-made ingredients by Matt Horsley, the director of food and beverage. Some of the signature cocktails include the TX Mojito with Tito's vodka, cucumber, cilantro, lime and jalapeno; the Bacon Old Fashioned with bacon infused Treaty Oak Red Handed Bourbon, maple syrup and walnut bitters; and the Ladybird Lake with Deep Eddy Ruby Red, Campari, rosemary, lemon and soda. In addition to signature cocktails are local brews, wines, spirits, and Tequila Flights with the guest's choice of 3 different tequilas.

In addition to backYARD at Waller Creek's wide range of Texas -nspired food, the backYARD has a 11,500-square-foot outdoor space, which has an airstream with a simple kitchen and full bar, yard games, weekly live music showcases, and beer-garden and auditorium seating. The space can seat 80 or 150 standing for events ranging from tailgates, corporate parties, and wedding receptions. The weekly live music showcases will take place every Thursday-Saturday at 7 p.m.

The backYARD at Waller Creek will offer breakfast from Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., Saturday and Sundays from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Lunch is served at 11:00 a.m., ending at 4 p.m. every day of the week. Dinner begins at 4 p.m. ending at 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and ending at 12 a.m. on Saturday and Sundays. In addition, backYARD's live music brunch happens every Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

In 1971, Dallas inventor, entrepreneur and restaurateur Mariano Martinez invented the frozen margarita machine, adapting it from a soft-service ice cream machine.
