• Texas Campgrounds Offer Unique Venue for Groups

From mini-golf to hiking trails to laser tag, these two Texas campgrounds are ready for your corporate retreat, team-building event or group meeting this summer.

The Jellystone Park at Whispering Pines is situated on 47 acres of the East Texas Piney Woods, just north of Tyler. The camp resort offers three indoor meeting rooms and an outdoor pavilion which boast up to 2,240 square feet of event space and can accommodate groups of up to 150 people. Nestled among the rolling hills of the facility are 23 rental cabins, many of which can sleep up to six guests, a bunk house that can sleep 16 people, 130 full-service RV sites and numerous tent sites.

Don and Jan Tardy and their adult children Colt Perrin and Bree Perrin, purchased the property in 2012 and began renovations immediately. Over the last three years, the new owners have invested more than $1 million in facility improvements.

Amenities at the remodeled facility include separate adult and family swimming pools, a poolside café, golf cart rentals and a catch and release fishing pond. Activities such as the resort’s new laser tag game, miniature golf, pickleball, tennis, basketball or sand volleyball are available for great team-building events. Additionally, Whispering Pines offers a convenience store and gift shop, laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi and according to the Weather Channel, an annual average temperature of 76.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

The North Texas Jellystone Park is conveniently located just 15 minutes south of downtown Fort Worth in Burleson. The 75-acre property offers four unique meeting halls, each with additional outdoor patio, courtyard or waterpark event space. The property’s largest venue, Guadalajara Hall, can accommodate up to 350 guests and features 4,200 square feet of indoor event space, a large stone fireplace, built in dance floor and a 2,400-square-foot outdoor patio.

A variety of outdoor activities including laser tag, paint ball, volleyball, basketball and others, are available for attendee downtime or for organized team-building events. The camp resort offers 37 cottages, which sleep from four to ten guests, RV rentals, 248 full-service RV sites, and dozens of tent sites. Additional amenities include two large swimming pools, bike rental, the Lost Maze, catch and release fishing and the Pirate’s Cove Water Park.

Pirate’s Cove features the 60-foot-tall Kamikaze Slide, two corkscrew slides and a 700-foot-long lazy river with zero entry lagoons. The North Texas Jellystone Park is now offering free passes to Pirate’s Cove for police officers and their families for the remainder of the 2016 season. “We just wanted to let police officers know that their services are appreciated,” says Steve Stafford, general manager of the North Texas Jellystone Park. 

For more than 300 years, ranching has been a way of life—and business—in Texas. The uniquely Texan ranch experience has captured the imagination of the world, and ranches have served as uncredited “stars” for some of Hollywood’s most iconic productions: from Reata, the fictitious ranch depicted in the classic movie “Giant,” to the glamorous Southfork Ranch, home of the primetime soap opera “Dallas.” Longhorns, horses, cowboys, rodeos, 10-gallon hats and cowboy boots: There is an alluring mystique surrounding Texas ranches.

 

In November, Dallas-based Todd Interests opened Thompson Dallas, part of hospitality brand Thompson Hotels. Thompson Dallas features 219 rooms, including 52 suites, two penthouse suites, and two culinary destinations.

 

When it comes to planning events, planners must be choosy when determining the venue. Setting priorities like location, size, and technological capabilities sets them up for a successful event, but often forces them to weed out dozens of venues due to their limitations. Although sometimes, a venue comes along that provides the perfect location, high-speed technology, and much more without having to compromise.
