Signature Drink: Elderflower Lemon Drop

The large clusters of the white, creamy flower of the elderberry is a frequent sight in the wilds of Texas May through July, so what better way to kick off the spring season than with a glass of The Butler House’s Elderflower Lemon Drop? Mix one up yourself and enjoy!

—1 oz. 1876 Vodka
— 1 oz. St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
—1 oz. lemon juice
—1/2 oz. Turbo simple syrup

Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake then strain into a sugar-rimmed martini glass and garnish with lemon zest. Cheers!

Dallas is famous for a lot of things, but one you may not be aware of is its claim to fame as the home of the frozen margarita! In 1971, Dallas inventor, entrepreneur and restaurateur Mariano Martinez invented the frozen margarita machine, adapting it from a soft-service ice cream machine. That first machine now sits in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

The AT&T Hotel and Conference Center, located on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, is a study on how to meet smart. The sustainability-focused (it’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certified and chefs use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible) venue first opened its doors in 2008 and renovated its rooms in 2016.

Former Texas A&M student and NFL player Floyd Raven has returned to Texas A&M—this time as a coffee magnate. Raven’s company, Last Shot Xpresso, opened at the new Doug Pitcock ’49 Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center. Raven, a business graduate, launched his coffee company in 2017. Last Shot Xpresso offers rich and unique coffee blends with athletically inspired names. Its blends are available in every bar and restaurant in the hotel and conference center, as well as through the conference center’s catering.

Shawna Reid, marketing and visitor center manager for the Bay Area Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, has lived all over the world. A self-described Air Force “brat” who then became an Air Force spouse was living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, when she met her husband. They moved to Bay Area Houston for her husband’s job in 2006. One of the things she loves about her adopted hometown is the sheer amount of things to do within 50 miles of her front door.
